As an independent travel agent, there’s nothing quite like experiencing a destination firsthand to truly understand what makes it special for my clients. My recent FAM trip to Jamaica was an incredible journey that reminded me why this Caribbean paradise remains one of my top-booked destinations alongside Thailand and Europe.

Half Moon Montego Bay: Where Luxury Meets Conservation

The highlight of my trip was undoubtedly Half Moon Montego Bay, particularly their incredible turtle sanctuary. As someone who creates bespoke experiences for travellers seeking something truly special, I was captivated by this unique conservation initiative.

One of the most exhilarating experiences was visiting Mystic Mountain – the zip-lining through the rainforest canopy was absolutely breathtaking! (Literally took my breath away.- I’m petrified of heights!) The views over Ocho Rios and the coastline are fab. Then there’s Dunn’s River Falls, where climbing the famous waterfalls hand-in-hand with fellow travellers creates an unforgettable bonding experience.

Cultural Immersion

I made sure to visit a local craft market where I picked up a bunch of souvenirs – the handcrafted items and local artwork make perfect mementos. The vendors were incredibly friendly and proud of their work, which really showcases the warm Jamaican spirit.

 

One thing that might surprise you – Jamaicans absolutely love KFC, and I can vouch that it tastes completely different in Jamaica than in the UK! It’s become such a local favourite that it’s practically a cultural experience in itself.

I also experienced a local supermarket (I love doing this when I’m away!) – it’s fascinating to see the local products, spices, and everyday items that give you real insight into how locals live.

A Memorable Journey Home

The perfect ending to this incredible FAM trip came on our flight home when we met the Jamaican national football team! They were traveling to the UK for their upcoming match against Trinidad & Tobago at the Brentford Community Stadium. The team’s anticipation and determination were infectious – you could feel their focus and excitement about the big game ahead!

It turned out to be the perfect send-off for them as they went on to win 3-2 on 27 May 2025. What a fantastic result! Meeting these talented athletes was such a special moment that really captured the spirit and passion that makes Jamaica so unique. Their dedication and pride reminded me once again why Jamaican culture is so vibrant and why visitors fall in love with the island’s energy.
